City Services and Departments
The City of Springfield offers a number of services to our residents, business owners, and visitors.  The City Departments below collectively make Springfield one of the best-run cities in the State:

Public Safety

The City of Springfield provides its residents and business owners one of the State’s finest Public Safety Departments.  The Department provides police and fire protection to the Springfield Community.


Finance/Treasury

The Springfield Finance Department is responsible for collecting all income tax, property tax, and public utility payments.  The department is also responsible for the City’s general accounting.


Income Tax

The City of Springfield levies a local income tax.  The Income Tax Department is a division of the Finance Department.


City Clerk

The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for maintaining public records, organizing council/commission meetings, maintaining voter registration records, and administering all local, state, federal, and school elections.


Assessor/Zoning Administrator

This department is responsible for determining assessed and taxable values of properties located in the City.  Additionally, this department oversees all zoning compliance issues, coordinates the permitting process for private projects, and provides code enforcement services to the City.


Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining our parks, cemeteries, and streets, and is also responsible for dispersion of our public water system and overseeing the City’s sanitation contractor. 


Parks and Recreations

The City of Springfield maintains three great parks and a beautiful Farmer's Market, and provides a number of recreational opportunities for our residents and visitors.  Visit the Department's homepage for more information on our recreation amenities.


City Manager

The City Manager provides administrative oversight to the City workforce.  Additionally, the City Manager assists the City Council in policy formation and implementation, represents the City in intergovernmental ventures, and facilitates development efforts within the City
