Tom Matson was appointed Public Works Director in July 1994. During his tenure as DPW Director, Tom has facilitated a number of great public infrastructure improvements within the City.

The City of Springfield contracts with the City of Battle Creek for the provision of sanitary sewer services to our residents and businesses. Please contact the Battle Creek Department of Public Works if you have any questions or concerns about your sewer services.

Garbage Pick up:
The City of Springfield is serviced by Waste Management. Waste Management provides residential garbage removal services for the entire City. Pick up is every Monday; containers are not provided. Residents are billed for this service by the City of Springfield on their regular sewer/water bill.
Yard Waste and Recycling:
Green yard bins are provided to all residential properties for the disposal of yard waste. Yard waste is picked up every Monday, beginning the first Monday in April, and ending the last Monday in November
Recycling bins are also provided to all residential properties. Recycling is picked up as per the following schedule:
North of Dickman and West of Helmer: First and Third Monday
North of Dickman and East of Helmer: Second and Fourth Monday
South of Dickman and East of Helmer: First and Third Monday
