Garbage Service
Garbage service is provided in partnership with Waste Management residential customers are billed $35.32 every two months for limited garbage, yard waste and recycling services. Garbage service includes one 96 gallon garbage cart, one 96 gallon yard waste cart and one 64 gallon recycle cart.
SOLID WASTE COLLECTION
Your trash and yard waste pick ups will occur each week on Monday. Recycle collection will occur every other week on Monday. To ensure pick up, please have your items at the curb by 6:00 AM or the night before your Monday collection day.
Waste Management will collect properly contained solid waste in the Waste Management provided trash cart only. No extra bags and no containers outside of the trash cart. Discarded household waste, food waste, rubbish and refuse generated by residential dwellings shall be loaded into the cart. Additional carts are available to rent for a fee per cart paid directly by the resident. Place rubbish at the curb for collection in bags inside of the curb cart only. Keep your cart clean and minimize odors.
BULK ITEMS
Waste Management will collect one bulk item per month on the same day as regular household waste. Bulk item collection will be the 4th Monday of each month. Please contact the City at (269) 965-8014 or email lgilson@springfieldmich.com by the 3rd Thursday of the month to schedule bulk item collection. Advance reporting is required for bulk item collection. Storm doors and windows must have glass removed and packaged separately in a box, taped closed and marked “BROKEN GLASS”, weighing no more than 60 lbs. Carpet must be rolled and tied in 4 foot sections and weigh no more than 60 lbs. No more than 4 bundles at one time. Appliances that once contained Freon with a tag attached certifying evacuation by a licensed technician may be placed at the curb side for collection in accordance with the bulk item guidelines above.
ADVANCE CALL REQUIRED for collection of appliances that still contain Freon, contact WM at (866) 797-9018 before placing the item at the curb side for collection (resident pre-payment will be required).
ADDITIONAL BULK ITEMS
Additional bulk items are pre-paid by the resident. $15.00 for 1 additional item, $35.00 for 2 additional items.

YARD WASTE
Yard waste is: Grass clippings, leaves, shrubs, vegetable waste and brush trimmings (under 4” in diameter and less than 4 ft. in length). No additional personal containers are to be used for Yard waste. Please use your Waste Management 96 gallon Yard Waste cart and biodegradable bags outside the cart ONLY. YARD WASTE DOES NOT INCLUDE: Sod, pet waste, dirt, rocks, trash, root balls, branches
(over 4 inches in diameter and longer than 4 ft. in length).
Yard waste collection is the first Monday in April through the last Monday in November.
Place yard waste in paper yard waste bags or 96 gallon cart.
Bundle brush and branches that are 4 inches in diameter
or less in 3-4 ft. long bundles with string. Bundled brush
and branches are allowed outside the cart as longs as
they are cut down into the dimensions described. Please
ensure bundles are no larger than 18 inches around and weigh
no more than 60 lbs each. Yard waste mixed with rubbish
cannot be collected.
RECYCLING
Mixed recycling is collected every other Monday based on your neighborhood see the map and calendar find your neighborhood on the map and place your recycle cart to the curb on your designated day. Please note: recycled items must be clean to be collected, no Styrofoam will be collected.
